On Tuesday March 16th, we visited Holy Trinity Monastery, an RC Benedictine priory, in St.David's AZ. The following pictures give you a little idea of the Monastery.
The Front entrance to the Monastery.
This giant cross dominates the landscape.
The Priory, where the monks live --- 2 monks, and 2 novices --- lots of room for more.
The Chapel is approached through a desert garden.
A stunning entrance to the Chapel. All buildings are built with rammed earth and covered with adobe.
Inside the Chapel beams are peeled pine.
The Altar mensa is a thick slice of mesquite, standing on roots of black walnut. What a wonderful altar on which to offer the Holy Sacrifice each day. Note also the choir in the apse, where the monks would pray the Daily Offices. The simplicity of it all is classical Benedictine. Any congregation would sit in the regular pews, facing the choir. The wonderful painted reredos has been covered by the hanging and cross for Lent.
